Fulfilling a long time dream

I finally fulfilled a long standing desire to design and make a Greene and Greene inspired coffee table using only traditional joinery. I’ve always admired the ebony splines and “ cloud lift” features of Greene and Greene furniture. The reverse tapered legs really show off the quarter sawn white oak and the oil finish gives the whole piece a stunningly warm luster.

The project took several months to complete as I figured out how to accomplish the joinery and not ruin over $600 worth of quarter sawn white oak. There were lots of sketchbook sketches and head scratching!

  1. Hi Marilyn

What a beautiful piece of furniture!! I can only imagine the many hours you spent creating the perfect piece. Well done and I am sure so self-satisfying.

We also received your Christmas letter via email (haha) and your year was filled with adventure and creativity while surrounded by wonderful friends and a loving partner. We are thrilled to hear all the positive news coming from Arizona! It is heartwarming.

Our big news for the year is the arrival of Ella Ruth on October 9th. Our youngest daughter, Erica, and her husband, Nick, are really over the moon with their beautiful little bundle. It has been wonderful watching them welcome Ella into their lives and ours too! They live in Boston so we are awaiting their arrival for Christmas.

We are all well.Eric continues to putter around in his office seeing his loyal patients but he is semi-retired. I think he enjoys seeing people and his office is really his man cave where he can escape my watchful eye.

We were in Scotland in the fall of 2022. My friends and I hiked the West Highland Way and then Eric and another friend met us and the two couples really explored the country from Skye to Edinburgh. Great fun!

Jane Kelly lives very near to me so we hike together and do many various activities. She is off to Halifax to visit her daughter who has a 20 month old and is expecting her second in May.

So glad you are well and continuing to pursue all of your many interests and developing your talents! Impressive.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and all the best for a wonderful 2024!!

    Xo, Tina
